The A418 Roadworks.

Reported anonymously at 10:38, Monday 16 September 2019

When coming back from Milton Keynes on Thursday night as I came off the A4146, I was confronted by road closed signs and started to follow the diversion signs until I realised that they were heading me back to Milton Keynes. Eventually I drove towards Soulbury and ignored any further road closed signs. What I do not understand is why the signage didn't make it clear that residents could access the road (which is what we were told by the road team when we spoke to them). My daughter who was travelling back from Norfolk eventually gave up and parked in Leighton Buzzard until we were able to contact her and tell her to ignore the signs. I have looked at my dashcam footage to look at the diversion in more detail. As you approach the large roundabout outside Wing where the A4146 meets the A418 (coming from Wing), the first diversion sign tells you to go left but at the actual roundabout another sign tells you to go right. You took the trouble to put a letter through residents doors. Why didn't it tell you that you could ignore the road closed signs. Also my wife was coming back from Wing earlier in the week and at 23.30 was forced to walk home from Hulcott as she was not allowed to come through. The road desperately needed repairing as does the major subsidence outside Rowsham. However, please bear in mind that in the future better signage, non-contradictory signage and more information on your information letters would be a great help. Thanks Bryan Evans.
