Dear All, Re Hitcham Road Railway Bridge -- Taplow I have recently commented on the safety conditions under the above bridge but received scant response so I will try again before elevation my comments Since the coming of the Bishops development and other factors both the pedestrian and road traffic has drastically increased in the area and an increasing dangerous situation exists which will result in a serious accident. It should be remembered that the tunnel is used by mother with pushchairs and also with young children 1) The tunnel is shared by both traffic and pedestrians with no barrier between the two, from a drivers point of view you cannot see pedestrians using the the tunnel at night (REDESIGN OF THE THROUGH WAY IS REQUIRED TO ALLOW A BARRIER AND RAISED WALKWAY TO BE INTRODUCED BETWEEN VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS) 2) There is a large amount of debris on both sides of the tunnel which prevents full use of the pedestrian areas. During rainy periods debris turns to mud which is extremely slippery. It is obvious that the tunnel hasn't been cleaned for years. (ALL DEBRIS TO BE CLEARED INITIALLY AND AN ONGOING CLEANING SCHEDULE UNDERTAKEN) 3) The lighting is totally inadequate and only partially in operation (NEW LIGHTING SCHEME REQUIRED) 4) The reflective paint on the tunnel walls is in extremely poor condition and does not perform the task it was intended. (WALLS TO BE REPAINTED) I would suggest that further works may be required in addition to those mentioned above which you should undertake urgently since the safety conditions are you responsibility.
