A418 in Bierton southwest of junction with Burcott Lane
Reported in the Traffic light / crossing - timing issues category anonymously at 20:44, Wed 13 June 2018
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1339210.
As can be seen on plan, which shows Google traffic view, timing of temporary traffic signals need adjusting. There was no northbound queue and very long southbound queue and delay in excess of 30 minutes.
The A418 through Bierton is an important link between Aylesbury and Milton Keynes (not sure why a proper dual carriageway was never built all the way from Aylesbury to MK - as both areas continue to grow surely this needs considering). However, as it is such an important link, if roadworks are to limit flow to one direction, why is there no signage advising drivers to reroute? For example, drivers could have routed via Swanbourne / Mursley? Could you push this information out to drivers any other way (e.g. by email, text message, facebook groups, etc?) Could contractors be forced to consider peak hour traffic flows when setting timing of signals? Could more intelligent signals be used that detect the length of queue in each direction and adjust for optimal flow?
It's not the first time I've observed this issue, but would be nice if it could be the last!
