Asheridge Road from Asheridge Industrial Estate where the road narrows to single lane extending to the end of Asheridge Village
Reported in the Snow and ice problem/winter salting category by Gary Bull at 09:42, Tue 29 January 2019
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1526492.
Good morning,
My name is Gary and I am part of the Chesham 4x4 volunteer team. I was hoping that you would consider adding to your secondary route? During the last recent period of bad weather the narrow parts of Asheridge Road in Chesham (after it leaves Asheridge industrial estate) were extremely hazardous and were primarily an entire swathe of ice, it was actually almost impossible to stand on the road. Whilst I realise this road is not a major route there is a fair amount of traffic to and from Asheridge Village and beyond. If the road was gritted from Chesham to the end of Asheridge Village close to the location of The Blue Ball public house this would incorporate the extremely hazardous steep winding hill. Footpaths also cross this single track lane and pedestrians do walk roadside.
Many thanks for the consideration and all of us at Chesham 4x4 would like to thank you for the excellent work you all do keeping our roads running through periods of adverse weather.
Kind regards, Gary Bull

Thank you for your enquiry.
Winter service is an important part of Transport for Buckinghamshire’s (TfB) maintenance work, involving the precautionary salting of major roads, reactive snow clearing and salting and also reacting to other weather related emergencies. The routes have all been agreed prior to the start of winter, any requests for new roads will be investigated after the 2018/2019 per period.
Salting is required due to low temperatures, TfB has set gritting routes that they cover each time treatment is required. Whilst we unfortunately can’t salt every single road in the county, we do cover over 44% of the county’s road network, a figure well above the national average. Footways are not routinely salted but may be cleared and treated when resources allow, after snowfall.
Most precautionary salting will be carried out during the evening or overnight. For information on how we decide which roads to salt and when, visit our web page here: https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/ services/ transport-and-roads/ road-maintenance-and-repairs/ how-we-decide-when-to-grit-the-roads/
Salt bins are provided at various locations throughout the county which we encourage drivers and pedestrians to use to treat localised icy conditions if necessary. The salt within such bins is for use on publicly accessible areas only. For more information about the restocking of salt, new salt bins or to report damaged or empty salt bins, visit our web page here: https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/ services/ transport-and-roads/ road-safety/ salt-bins/Posted by Buckinghamshire Council at 09:45, Tue 29 January 2019
