New Zebra Crossing Development Management S278
Reported in the Belisha Beacon broken category anonymously at 19:27, Tue 17 September 2019
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1771100.
Having driven through Aston Clinton last week (12/9/19) I was mortified to see a new pedestrian crossing being placed slap bang in the middle of TWO bus stops more or less opposite each other.
There is no lay by for the bus stop. I don't know who on earth decided that this was a good place for the pedestrian crossing but it is a very serious accident waiting to happen and should be immediately moved.
I can appreciate that children need the crossing,I can appreciate that bus users need a bus stop BUT these three things in close proximity? NO.
What is going to happen when a bus stops at the bus stop and children start crossing the crossing, a driver comes driving safely along and starts to overtake the stationery bus, as they're entitled to, they cannot see children standing at the kerb waiting to cross, they cannot see children moving off of the kerb waiting to cross, there is going to be an accident and it will be fatal.
I am surprised the school hasn't identified this problem.
I urge this matter to be investigated properly (try for example marking a bus in the bus stop by the crossing...perhaps one on either side of the roaroad at the same time as will happen there will be buses going in either direction, try looking from the zebra crossing around the bus to see if there is anything coming and try crossing the road when the buses are parked there and tell me your thoughts.
Please either move the bus stops to a safer place or move the zebra crossing (perhaps the person who identified that as the ideal spot should pay for the extra work? :) )
Ideally it needs to be the bus stops that need to be moved.
