Blocked drains and ongoing flooding in Chiltern Hills Road, even in moderate rain
Reported in the Blocked drain category by Rachel Johnson at 11:26, Mon 11 November 2019
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1840875.
After an hour and a half of moderate rain on Saturday afternoon (9 November), Chiltern Hills Road was flooded again. Earlier that day, a resident had noticed that the drain directly outside no.1 was blocked to the top with solid debris (see photo). The other drains are also blocked to varying heights with the same solid debris.
When I was out monitoring Saturday’s flooding, water was pooling over the drain outside the drive of no.4, even in the early stages. As described in my previous reports, this property has taken the brunt of the flooding and has sustained significant damage. Water entering Chiltern Hills Road from Furzefield Road passes straight over the blocked drain outside no.1 and then travels to the lowest point of the road, no.4, where the drain is also blocked. The water has nowhere else to go apart from down the drive of no.4. In effect, this property has had to act as the drain for rainwater from the surrounding roads which are draining into our road, as well as water from our road itself (see photo of the garden of no.4 after flooding).
It is undeniable that the drains are a huge part of the problem and that the flooding we have seen in Chiltern Hills Road over the past few weeks is not simply the result of flash flooding, as you have said when you have closed all our previous reports.
During the flooding on Saturday, the guest of a neighbour fell in floodwater outside no.4 and sustained cuts and bruises, as well as being very shaken. She was helped home by another resident. This underlines the very real dangers we have already pointed out.
I ask again that you please deal with the problem. Please clear the blocked drains in Chiltern Hills Road, and any in Furzefield Road, as a matter of urgency.
