Pedestrian fell and was injured on flooded pavement outside no.4 Chiltern Hills Road. Urgent safety work needed to rectify ongoing dangerous flooding.

Reported in the Footpath / pavement problem category by Rachel Johnson at 14:10, Tue 12 November 2019

Received by Buckinghamshire Council moments later

On Saturday afternoon as it was getting dark, a pedestrian was trying to negotiate the flooded pavement outside no.4 Chiltern Hills Road. This is a danger spot which repeatedly floods due to blocked drains, as many of us in the road have reported to you. She fell in the treacherous conditions and was injured. I was out in the road monitoring the flooding at the time, and saw her being supported by the resident of no.4, who had witnessed what had happened and was helping the victim to walk slowly to the nearby house where she was staying as a guest. She was pale and shaken and had hurt her knee and arm.

In your response to my third report about the flooding in Chiltern Hills Road, you say that you ‘work on a priority based matrix’ and that you ‘will continue to monitor all defects to ensure the safety of our residents’. I know this serious report will assist you in your monitoring and it also highlights that the safety of residents walking down our perpetually flooding road cannot currently be ensured. As I have separately reported, the danger is magnified by the non-working street light in the flooded section of the road. The area in the immediate foreground of the attached photo shows the flooded pavement outside no.4 in the dark.

An accident has now happened due to the failure to rectify the perilous conditions in Chiltern Hills Road, which we have repeatedly reported. The necessary work to make it safe must be prioritised urgently. Please respond by taking prompt action.
