Sunken drain - Church Road, Lane End
Reported in the Road surface category anonymously at 16:31, Mon 8 June 2020
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2147341.
About 5 years ago, the drain outside our houses was replaced; afterwards, we had a real problem with the drain clanking every time a car went over it. Our then neighbour, who unfortunately is no longer with us, lifted the drain and placed some metal strips under it to stop it clanking. About 2 years later, we think someone cleaned out the drains and removed the metal strips. Since then, the drain has clanked every time a car drives over it. We first reported this problem about 3 years ago; since then everyone else around has reported it including people who live quite a distance from it, proving how noisy it is. The drain is directly outside our bedrooms, our sitting rooms, and our home offices; it is completely unacceptable that we are still having to put up with this noise. Recently we have been using cones to stop people driving over it; this stopped the noise but meant that people had to swerve out of the way to avoid the cone. We have now run out of cones so the noise is back. I notice that this problem was raised at the end of May and that last week you posted a note to say that you would be addressing it within 5 working days; however I see that you also said that in January. Either you did nothing then or what you did was not sufficient and you need to do something differently this time: the drain needs to be completely reseated and then if it still rattles, as it did when you first upgraded it 5 years ago, you need to put in some metal supports to stop it clanking. The pavement also requires attention. Please can you address this as a matter of urgency as it is affecting the wellbeing of approximately 20 people in the immediate vicinity and risks causing a road accident in the future.
