Join of Henley Road with driveway of ARRAN
Reported in the Flooded subway category anonymously at 23:22, Sat 5 September 2020
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2280401.
The problem is that each resurfacing of the Henley Road has raised the road surface level relative to the kerb than heavy rain routinely overflows the gutter an the South side of the main road, which then floods into my driveway. This flood overwhelms my driveway drain, floods my garage and the water has thus far risen to within millimetres of flooding the inside of my house through the front door. Moreover, the flood also enters the underground tank of my pumped sewerage system, bringing with it all the grit washed down from the Henley Road. The two domestic sewerage pumps, designed to operate only intermittently to pump sewerage up to the Henley Road street sewer, are then distressed by having to run continuously for several hours to clear the flood. In addition, the pump rotary parts, particularly the bearings, instead of dealing with just soft sewerage, are then challenged by large volumes of grit and clay that are brought in by the flood, which at my front door has been up to three inches deep. The remedy is to raise a jump of tarmac to the same height as the street gutter kerb at the join of my driveway and the Henley Road. I request this as a matter of urgency as I now have a £5,000 bill to replace both the main and the backup underground sewerage pumps on my property. This is the third time I have had to replace the pumps. It has taken this long for a new pump contractor to identify the problem to me, the previous contractors being content with simply fulfilling expensive repeat repairs without giving the cause to me as an innocent householder.

Please see my previous report and your reply under Reference 40141997. The situation is that I have now spent £5,152 replacing underground sewerage pumps on my property that have been overwhelmed by heavy rain water and silt washed down my driveway from the street and flooding to within inches of my front door lintel, as well as into the sewer system, where a pump designed for handling one 20 litre toilet flush at a time has to suddenly pump thousands of litres of rain water flooding into the sewer. This situation has just now been repeated after the last recent rain and I cannot continue to accept this risk o my pump unless you are prepared to either underwrite the cost of a replacement pump each time it is burned out by a flood or meet me in court, in which case I would be grateful for the full, formal name and address of the department responsible. What I would much rather see, however, is that the priority of the rectification to the road-edge join to my drive seals the water into the street-side with a small tarmac hump of the kind you use to calm traffic is raised to Immediate before the next street flood. The cost of such a hump is considerably less than the cost of yet another specialised sewage pump or worse, flooding the interior of my home. Please, can you look at this again and get that small flood-prevention tarmac hump across my driveway as soon as possible.
