Your response is not safe. This cast iron manhole cover and frame bounce every time a vehicle drives over it at this very busy junction. I recommend you inspect it as a matter of urgency. If I do not hear from you in the immediate future I shall have no alternative than to report this to the press

I have come to the conclusion that you propose to leave this manhole in an unsafe condition until the next time you get round to dealing with that stretch of road. I have passed on the problem to Buckinghamshire Council at a level where I suspect it might get some action underway. Regards, Patrick Crotty

This is a lethally unsafe road hazard. It is astonishing to suggest that it has been assessed on a "priority based risk matrix" for consideration when TfB are planning future works in the area". A cyclist or a user of the new street-legal electric scooters could easily be seriously injured. The 150mm+ gaps around the loose cast iron cover and frame have pieces of loose stones. When I passed it today there were fewer stones and larger gaps. It would at least be safer if a still plate were secured in place. I am prepared to be a witness for the prosecution in the event of criminal action against TfB or the individual found responsible in the event of a prosecution for negligence leading to a fatality caused by this hazard.

I am delighted to see that this hazard has been dealt with. I'd be interested to know whether anyone did in fact suffer injury before it was fixed. Do you have that information? Regards, Patrick Crotty
