Overgrown footway

Reported via desktop in the Footpath / pavement problem category anonymously at 14:56, Fri 13 November 2020

Received by Buckinghamshire Council moments later

Good afternoon I wish to advise you of the potential danger facing pedestrians using the Frith Hill footway from South Heath toward Great Missenden. From a point opposite the old Weights & Measures fitness studio, now usurped by the HS2 construction, past the Old Frith Hill Farm property continuing downhill to where the footpath ends the footway is overgrown by vegetation. It has lost approximately half of its width, leaving around .75m of visible footway toward the kerb line, and more than just fallen leaves shown in the photographs. It is natural for pedestrians to walk on the constructed footway that can be seen rather than on an overgrown area which increases the possibility of trips and falls. However, with a limited carriageway width vehicles Great Missenden bound tend to keep toward the footway close to pedestrians. An incident this morning highlights the danger. I was walking toward South Heath on the reduced width of footway when a large goods removal vehicle approached me from South Heath direction. Anticipating that the large nearside rear-view mirror mounted on this vehicle would take my head off my shoulders, I stepped to the right into the overgrown area of footway to avoid this fate. Had more visible footway have been apparent the likelihood is that I would have walked closer to the hedgerow to increase the distance between myself and the danger of the traffic. Along with other residents of South Heath I frequently use this pedestrian route to visit Great Missenden and parents use it to walk children to school particularly in the summer months. I urge Transport for Buckinghamshire to programme the clearance work of this route as soon as possible in the light of the current danger it presents to pedestrians.
