Thank you for your enquiry.
Winter service is an important part of Transport for Buckinghamshire’s (TfB) maintenance work, involving the precautionary salting of major roads, reactive snow clearing and salting, and also reacting to other weather-related emergencies. The routes have all been agreed prior to the start of winter; any requests for new roads will be investigated after the 2018/2019 per period.
Salting is required due to low temperatures and TfB has set gritting routes that they cover each time treatment is required. Whilst we unfortunately can’t salt every single road in the county, we do cover over 44% of the county’s road network, a figure well above the national average. Footways are not routinely salted but when resources allow they may be cleared and treated after snowfall. Most precautionary salting will be carried out during the evening or overnight. For information on how we decide which roads to salt and when, please visit our web page here:
Salt bins are provided at various locations throughout the county, which we encourage drivers and pedestrians to use to treat localised icy conditions if necessary. The salt within such bins is for use on publicly accessible areas only. For more information about the restocking of salt, new salt bins or to report damaged or empty salt bins, please visit our web page here:
