Re: 11 July 2021 midnight road accident in Whelpley Hill involving a speeding car veering off the road, damaging road signs and property.

I am the owner and a resident of the property that was damaged by the above incident. I and other local residents are disappointed that the Bucks Council department responsible has still not actively responded with the urgently necessary appropriate action, given how many drivers travel way too fast through this hazardous short stretch of road.

The damage to our property could have been much worse but for a sturdy old wooded gazebo that was wrecked by the impact. And that has made us very aware that a similar incident could occur at any time. Should that happen, it could be a case of public authority negligence.

So, here are four practical and inexpensive proposals that the local authority responsible for road, pedestrian and resident safety should be treating as an urgent priority.

1. Replace the 30 mph speed limit sign with a 20 mph sign at each end of this dangerous stretch of residential road.

2. Install a short length of low level Armco crash barrier along the verge where the accident occurred, to protect pedestrians and property, and serve as a visible hazard warning to drivers.

3. Erect a Dangerous Bend Ahead warning sign at the approach to each end of this stretch of road on which pedestrians are already vulnerable to passing traffic.

4. Clear (a) the growth that is blocking drivers' view of the road ahead, and (b) the debris that is obstructing the grass verge.

We look forward to seeing some practical action very soon.
