The drain gully metal lid cover is loose. It has been like this for a very long time now. Every time a vehicle passes over it (100s of times each day) it makes a loud clunking sound. This is a residential area and the noise is loud enough to disturb residents in adjacent properties particularly at night-time. It is likely a very easy fix. The frame probably has grit on it, and this is causing the lid to be uneven. All gully grills, regardless of the maker, are non-rock with a three-point suspension for stability & silent operation. If it cannot be cleaned and made silent it must be broken.

  • Thank you for your message to say the noisy drain cover will be addressed when the package of works for this area has been put together. Can you please be more specific regarding exactly what will happen and when? The reason I ask is that this is an ongoing issue and I have been trying to get this fixed for several years now. Your response today is the same as I hear every single time I report this problem. Also, there have been BCC maintenance workers in this area twice in recent weeks. In fact, there was a maintenance team in the High Street on 1st November. The drain cover was lifted and looked at, but it was still noisy and incorrectly seated. Another team from BCC was fixing potholes this week but they did not have any means to lift the drain cover so could not do anything to it. They advised me to contact BCC directly.
