Fidlers Field / Snake Lane, Quainton
Reported via mobile in the Snow and ice problem/winter salting category anonymously at 10:09, Monday 17 January 2022
Received by Buckinghamshire Council moments later
Considering Snake Lane aka Fidlers Field is now used as an alternative route for traffic in and out of Quainton, since the Railway Bridge has been issued with a 3tonne weight limit, the bus route now diverts via Snake Lane/Fidlers Field and all other traffic, including heavy lorries, now has to use this route, this road, which was originally a gated road and not built for heavy loads and traffic, has to be gritted. It is not taken up on the regular grit route when it should be. I understand there are concerns about gritting bridges, but then grit up until the bridge either side and cars driving over the gritted road will distribute the salt and grit onto the bridge. Or at least provide bins for gritting so locals can go out and grit the roads ourselves. There’s already been an accident due to black ice. Cars are skidding and slipping each day that it has frozen. Please make our roads safe.
Thank you for your enquiry, which has been passed to our Winter Maintenance Team.
Winter service is an important part of Transport for Buckinghamshire’s (TfB) maintenance work, involving the precautionary salting of major roads, reactive snow clearing and salting, and also reacting to other weather-related emergencies.
We have a pre agreed salting/gritting route which is determined prior to winter to allow us to plan out the routes. Whilst we unfortunately can’t salt every single road in the county, we do cover over 44% of the county’s road network, a figure well above the national average.
Most precautionary (primary) salting will be carried out during the evening or overnight, to avoid higher levels of traffic.
For information on how we decide which roads to salt and when, please visit our web page:
Foot paths are not routinely salted however, when possible they may be cleared and treated after snowfall.
Salt bins are filled before and during the winter season as priorities allow. They are provided at various locations throughout the county, which we encourage the public to use to treat localised icy conditions if necessary.
