The whole length of Thornton Road, Nash

Reported via mobile in the Snow and ice problem/winter salting category anonymously at 09:51, Tue 18 January 2022

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later

This road is not gritted. It is a school bus route for more than one school. It is very dangerous on a frosty or icy day. Can this road and a number of other local school bus routes be put on the list for gritting. I appreciate that you have many other roads to do, but surely when you have bus loads of school children it is only an accident waiting to happen.

  • Thank you for your enquiry, which has been passed to our Winter Maintenance Team.

Winter service is an important part of Transport for Buckinghamshire’s (TfB) maintenance work, involving the precautionary salting of major roads, reactive snow clearing and salting, and also reacting to other weather-related emergencies.

We have a pre agreed salting/gritting route which is determined prior to winter to allow us to plan out the routes. Whilst we unfortunately can’t salt every single road in the county, we do cover over 44% of the county’s road network, a figure well above the national average.

Most precautionary (primary) salting will be carried out during the evening or overnight, to avoid higher levels of traffic.

For information on how we decide which roads to salt and when, please visit our web page:

    https://www.buckscc.gov.uk/ services/ transport-and-roads/ road-maintenance-and-repairs/ how-we-decide-when-to-grit-the-roads/

Foot paths are not routinely salted however, when possible they may be cleared and treated after snowfall.

Salt bins are filled before and during the winter season as priorities allow. They are provided at various locations throughout the county, which we encourage the public to use to treat localised icy conditions if necessary.

For information on salt bins, please visit our web page:

    Regards
    Buckinghamshire Council
