RECENT EVENTS PROVE THAT THE DRAINAGE PIPES ARE BLOCKED>>>>> Recent mains water supply leak that has been fixed has demonstrated that the drainage pipework locally is blocked. The mains water leak was fixed. Only one mains water leak was fixed. A second leak locally was not attended to at all but stopped when the one and only mains water leak was fixed. While mains water was leaking from the recent mains water leak located on threshold to Avery Avenue road junction. The water entered the road gully. Rather than draining through the drainage pipes, it re-emerged to the surface once the pipes were full. It looked like a second leak but was a leak to the surface of water in the drainage system. This demonstrates that the pipe away from the gullies is blocked. The water was unable to drain away fully and emerged at the surface again. Two mains water leaks while unlikely were possible but as only one leak location was attended to and was fixed it proves that the drainage pipe work is blocked. To fix this YOU NEED TO CLEAR THE PIPES THAT DRAIN THE GULLIES ON GRAYS LANE BETWEEN AVERY AVENUE AND PLOMER GREEN AVENUE. The last gulley before Plomer Green Avenue did appear to drain well but the previous two did not and water entering the road gullies leaked through the soil back to the surface. this was back to the road gutter and the grass verge and the footpath. These blocked gullies are those on the east of Grays lane between Avery Avenue and Langley Close. The pipe work will be best cleared by jet washing from the pipes down stream of the blockage. You might also need to check the integrity of the pipes. Pipe damage might cause a blockage. A similar blocked pipe on Plomer Hill in recent history led to the road collapsing during very heavy rain. while the water pressure there was bigger due to local gradients the stability of the ground through which water often leaks in this way can become compromised. PLEASE CHECK AND UN-BLOCK STORM SEWER PIPES.

Thank you for your report regarding a drainage issue, which has been passed to the Local Area Technician to investigate.
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.
The Local Area Technician will carry out an inspection within 10 days and order a repair if required.
IMPORTANT: If you consider this to be dangerous or an emergency, please call us on 0300 131 6000
Otherwise, by submitting the report online we will deal with it in line with our agreed timescales.Regards
