Copthall lane
Reported via mobile in the Road surface category anonymously at 16:51, Wed 8 March 2023
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4293025.
Series of considerably deep potholes/ failed road surface. I try to avoid Copthall lane due to these pot holes however when I do drive down/ up. It is impossible to stay in lane or drive in a straight line. Swerving to avoid these enormous potholes can easily cause an accident also extensive damages to tyres, wheels and suspension. I shouldn't have to avoid using a road I pay road tax in order to drive on. This issue has been ongoing for over a month now. I would also like to mention that the part of Copthall lane, with the issues of the potholes I have highlighted to you, is also missing centre road lane markings. I would urge you to have these issues assessed asap as the potholes have only gotten worse.

This has been passed to the local area technician to investigate the enquiry/issue regarding a pothole/road surface.
During winter months we receive a very high number of reports regarding potholes or a poor road surface, it's easy to assume that potholes are formed due to roads being poorly maintained but that is not usually the case. There are many factors that can cause potholes, particularly during the winter months when water seeps in through cracks in the road surface, collecting underneath and when the water freezes, it expands and forces up the road surface in through cracks in the road surface.
Our priority is always the safety of road users, so in some cases during busy periods a permanent repair is not always possible immediately. However, temporary repairs are a way to ensure the area is safe until such times as we can return to make a permanent repair.

Update
Transport for Buckinghamshire operates two methods for safety defect identification; proactively by Highway Inspectors who identify safety defects in line with Buckinghamshire Councils' Highway Inspection Policy and reactively by Local Area Technicians following reports from the public. On receipt of reports, our Highway Inspection team make an assessment, determine if works are required and if so, the appropriate response times and repair method. It is in these instances only the larger defects are repaired; those which meet the safety intervention levels as outlined in the Inspection Policy. Any remaining defects are monitored for deterioration and added to other programmes of work for repair when resources are available. We also monitor and inspect the quality of repairs aiming to ensure that any work is carried out to the best and most appropriate standard. It is regrettably the case that the limited annual funding available to Buckinghamshire Council each year is insufficient to address all defects identified. For this reason, whilst priority defects will receive a repair within appropriate timescales as dictated by the above policy, more minor defects such as the defect you have reported may not be immediately scheduled for repair. An order for a repair remains in our system for when resource allows and we will continue to monitor the location for any further deterioration.
Please be assured, we will continue to monitor the area in line with our Highways Safety Inspection Policy.
State changed to: No further action
