Speeding vehicles

Cars and vans are routinely speeding up and down the road: in excess of approx 50mph. Most of these are delivery vehicles or taxis visiting Stony Dean school located at the top end of the road. But some are also residents. Many children and disabled people regularly cross the road and it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs due to a reckless driver. We have already had a number of parked vehicles damaged because of this type of carelessness. Speed bumps and/or an LED speed monitor are desperately required, as is the need to make the school aware of the problem so they can advise their visitors accordingly.

Councillor Martin Tett has been informed as have the police yet again but none of them appear interested in the risk to public safety this issue poses.

The police have now visited the road (though only to take details and not to do any speed monitoring) but it is unclear what action they intend to take.

14 months on and still waiting on some action from the council and police, preferably before someone is injured or killed.

Problem continues. Have now received a formal response from the council but basically as we have had no serious accidents or fatalities they are not going to take any action. In their opinion it is best to wait until someone gets hurt rather than try and prevent it happening.

Vehicles traveling up to 50mph. The council and police are not interested in even conducting a speed measurement session or erecting max speed signage. So we will have to wait until somebody is hospitalised or killed until action is taken.

Vehicles continue to speed up and down the road. The council and police have made it clear they aren’t interested in making any effort to curtail or deter offenders - probably until someone is killed or hospitalised. A speed reduction to 20mph with a couple of corresponding signs would be a relatively cheap and effective way of dealing with the issue, but the council and police are more than happy to hide behind a wealth of red tape and budgetry excuses because its the easy, lazy option. What price do they put on a life?
